As the oldest medical science known to humankind, Ayurveda translates from Sanskrit to mean "the science of life." It is both a preventative and clinical medicine that looks at each individual from an interconnected perspective rather then as diverse parts that are disparate.
Ayurveda recognizes the uniqueness of each individual and the importance of gaining balance at the root cause of any dis-ease or series of symptoms in a comprehensive way. It is said that the primordial cause of dis-ease is due to our loss of connection to our source nature. We are a microcosm of the universal macrocosm and all of nature exists inside of us. States of ease and dis-ease manifest through three main energies known as the doshas - Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These doshas are directly linked to all 12 systems in the body from skeletal to digestive.
Vata is responsible for movement, transportation and communication inside of our bodies. Pitta, for digestion, metabolism and transformation and Kapha - structure, strength/immunity and lubrication. In order to create optimal health, we must look at aligning these energies and in Ayurveda that is done through various lifestyle and medical practices.
An Ayurvedic counseling session includes a full assessment of the pulse and tongue as well as assessment of the individual's structural and functional history. Recommendations and education in the way of lifestyle, diet, herbs and sensory therapies are provided to assist in correcting any imbalances to assist individuals in feeling better and living their best life.
Ayurveda can assist different states of dis-ease so if you are looking for a new and healthier way of being I would be honored to work with you.
